It Can Always Be Worse

On May 7th, I met a man sitting outside of Kroger in Duluth, GA. I stopped and asked if I could get him anything before heading into the store. He simply asked for some chips and a drink. I got him a large bag of chips, a big bottle of water, and a protein bar.

After I finished shopping, I went back to talk with him. He shared that he was currently living on the streets because he had left his group home. Things had gotten so rough there that, in his words, it felt like being on the streets was the better option.

As he told his story, I had the opportunity to share the Gospel with him and pray over him. These kinds of encounters are both heartbreaking and encouraging. Heartbreaking because no one should ever have to face such circumstances—but encouraging because this young man still had hope. He didn’t know exactly what his future held, but he knew he couldn’t find it where he had been. He was willing to go through a hard season if it meant finding something better on the other side.

I may never know, this side of Heaven, how God continues to work in his life. But what I do know is that God can move mountains when we step out in faith. Even faith as small as a mustard seed can impact someone’s life—and their eternity.
